There is something green and friendly about March 17, 2017 in the Comox Valley and it isn't just St. Patrick's Day. This Friday marks Transit Driver Appreciation Day and the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) is encouraging residents to support our essential system and the important people that make it work.

"Transit Driver Appreciation Day has become an international movement and this is a great time to thank the hardworking drivers in our community who play such an important role in the passenger experience," explained Vince Van Tongeren, policy & sustainability analyst at the CVRD.  "Comox Valley drivers are known as being some of the friendliest around and we are so fortunate to have such great people working with us."

The CVRD is also urging residents to think greener as they make plans to celebrate St. Paddy's Day this Friday. Have you thought about how you will get to where you're going? Is taking transit an option for you?  Besides not having to worry about having that extra green beer, you will be supporting the drivers and other professionals who make our transit system work.

In the Comox Valley, there are several ways you can participate in Transit Driver Appreciation Day to let your transit driver(s) know you appreciate what they do:

Simply say "thank you" when you enter or exit the bus (you probably already do!)

Give him or her a nice card or note

Use #tdad and #In2Transit on Social Media

Submit a compliment through BC Transit's website (which you can also do any time of year)

Any Comox Valley resident who thanks a Comox Valley Transit Driver on social media using the #tdad or #In2Transit hashtag between now and March 18, is automatically eligible to win a $50 gift card to Mudsharks Coffee Bar.
