Works from 21 Vancouver Island artists will adorn the walls of the Comox Valley Airport from now until next year, as part of the annual Public Art and Culture Exhibition.

The pieces are all derived from the common theme 'The Elements' and will be displayed at the airport's terminal building until May.

The exhibit include paintings, sculptures, prints, textiles and "mixed media" and come from across the Island.

This marks the 12th year that art is being displayed at the airport through a partnership with the Comox Valley Community Arts Council.

"We want to showcase a strong sense of place to everyone passing through our terminal," said airport CEO Fred Bigelow, who called the program "integral to portraying the unique identity, environment, cultural values and artistic vitality of our Comox Valley."

Comox Valley artist Emily Cadieux, whose acrylic paintings 'Earth' and 'Euphoria' are on display, said she was pleasantly surprised to earn a placing.

"There's so many great artists in the Valley and all over the place, and then I got an email and there you go," she said.

Arts Council outreach coordinator April Dawn Brass said setting up the exhibit is a fun process, in part because of the artists' reactions to seeing their works on display.
